Who We Are...

We are an historic downtown church, founded on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River in 1872. The original church was a log cabin donated by Major James Evans.

A Methodist circuit rider named, Rev. William C. Jordan, was the first Pastor to serve the founding four families in Ft. Myers.

He preached God's word, and "every man, woman and child attended and prayed with him", according to a local historian.

On Dec. 6, 1953 Reverend James Rooks delivered the first sermon in our current sanctuary. It was a packed house and many were turned away. Membership at that time was almost 1500 strong.

Many changes have taken place in our city and our church since that time, but one thing has not changed.

First United Methodist Church continues to play a vital role in the transformation of lives in today's world. We believe that Jesus Christ changes lives and we seek to help others experience the joy of a risen, living Savior! Come join us! Start a history of your own with Christ at First United Methodist Church.
